Bhaskar Nigam

Condition Survey Programme Manager

The Shipowners Club

Bhaskar has spent more than 10 years at sea, rising to the rank of Chief Officer and has extensive experience in container shipping. In his first role ashore, working as a Port Captain, he dealt extensively with multi-purpose and heavy-lift vessels including project cargo for the oil and gas industry in Australia. Bhaskar joined ‘The Shipowners’ Mutual Protection and Indemnity Association – Singapore branch’ in 2013 as a Loss Prevention Executive and in his current role as Condition Survey Programme Manager is responsible for the efficient management and running of the Condition Survey Programme globally.

In addition to being involved with the survey programme, Bhaskar has been actively involved in developing Loss Prevention initiatives for the Club including relevant Loss Prevention publications, interactions with Members and ship crews, training sessions, risk analysis and causation analysis of claims.

 

Capt.Vijay Pal Singh

Marine Loss Control (India)

Tata-AIG General Insurance Company Limited

Vijay started out as cadet in 1990 & became Master Mariner in year 2000, so he calls himself a millennial Master. Having worked as Fleet Personnel Super with ship owners like Great Eastern Shipping & D’Amico ships, he moved to marine surveying & joined J.B. Boda Surveyors – Mumbai as Principal surveyor in 2009. He then moved to Tata-AIG General Insurance in 2014 & since then, is working in Marine Loss Control Engineering department as MLCE-Country head, taking care of all types of cargoes that are insured by Tata-AIG & AIG worldwide. His favourite cargoes are Project cargoes, but he loves to handle complicated matters involving cargo movements in India & worldwide. MLCE is a concept of AIG-New York & he thus reports to AIG USA.

He loves vintage & classic cars. In fact, he proudly owns a few of them and restores them with penchant.

Capt. Vikrant Jain

Vikrant is a Master Mariner and he has also pursued a post graduate programme in Management from the prestigious Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad.  After sailing for over a decade on oil and chemical tankers with leading shipping companies – Vikrant took a keen interest in management and special regards to the topic of demurrage.

For the past 5 years, he has negotiated demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third-party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms. He has handled and settled demurrage claims totalling over $50m annually. This exposure has provided him the opportunity to interact internally with traders, operations, IT professionals, contract administration, accounting, and credit; while working externally with demurrage counterparts.

Gautam Rekhi

CEO at Skeiron Logistics (Skeiron Group Company)

Gautam is an ex-mariner with post graduation in marine insurance from the Lloyds Academy London and World Maritime University Sweden. He is also a Masters degree holder from MMD/DG Shipping, Mumbai and a Ship Associate from Narottam Morarji Institute of Shipping India.

An accomplished top management professional with over 23 years experience in Indian and International markets including 11 years of exposure in leadership roles, he is a visionary and a decisive leader, noted for his sound and practical management style coupled with excellent organisation, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Gautam is amongst the youngest CEO’s in the Shipping and Logistics Industry and has been nominated for CNBC TV 18 awards for small and medium scale enterprises in 2006. He is touted as an industry leader for strategy and business planning for ship management, logistics management and cargo movement.

 

Capt. Zarir Iràni

The Chair at the Board of Directors of Constellation Marine Services LLC

Capt. Irani is the Global President of the IIMS (2018-2020) and serves at the IIMS Board in UK since 2002. He is also an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers. He also serves voluntarily as NI Branch Secretary and is on the managing committee of ICS UAE Branch. He believes in devoting time volunteering back into the industry as the best way of giving what had been received over these years.

A Master Mariner with over 27 years of work experience in the Maritime and Oil & Gas industry, Capt. Zarir Soli Irani is the founder member of a leading Marine Surveying firm M/s. Constellation Marine Services LLC, which has its head Quarters in London and managed by an independent Board of Directors.

Capt. Irani holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA) through one of the World’s top 10 Management Institutions.

His professional interests focus is on vessel inspections OCIMF approved OVID Inspector along with being an Independent Warranty Surveyor. He is also an IMCA approved eCMID inspector for heavy lift vessels one of the 2 who are qualified in the Middle East. His current projects include Rig Moves, major marine accident investigation, Load outs and Certificates of Approval for project cargo movements. Having executed over 16,700 nominations in the past 14 years that he has spent in and around the Middle East coastal waters and Singapore.

 

Zarir Bharucha

Zarir is a third-generation lawyer is a leading dispute resolution professional in India, with over 20 years’ experience and previously worked at magic circle firm, Linklaters in London. Zarir has acted in a number of ground breaking cases in the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court of India and regularly litigates international disputes in courts and tribunals throughout India. Zarir is also nominated by the LCIA as an arbitrator on India related disputes and has frequently given expert evidence in foreign arbitration and before courts outside India. Zarir frequently contributes articles for the trade and legal press, participates in policy contribution and on committees for new legislation (particularly in the marine area) and is a regular speaker at a number of specialist conferences such as the IBA.

Zarir is ranked in Band 1 in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

Mumbai, dealing with various Marine projects in terms of Project consultancy, Techno commercial feasibility, detailed desigining. etc.More than 5 years in Senior Management position of a “shipping unit” belonging to a major MNC, responsible towards Technical, Purchase and operational functions. 7 years in Business development: Ship Design, Project conceptualisation & execution, evaluation of Shipyards, Sale & purchase, project Management of New-construction and Major Conversion projects.

During this period, 2 years as the Business head of an independent consulting unit in India, overseeing all functions.7 years as Classification Surveyor dealing with periodical, new construction surveys, 3rd  party inspections, various statutory audits, classification and certification process review, rule development etc., concurrently working as Flag state Inspector for various Flag states, for 4 years.10 years as on-board Engineer holding various ranks & positions out of which last 3 years as Chief Engineer.

 

Nalini Venugopa

Mrs. Nalini Venugopal has joined as the Chief Manager of Marine Hull Department at New India Assurance Company Ltd in December 2016. She has headed Divisional Office of Mumbai RO II from January 2008 to December 2012 after which she was promoted and posted as Manager, Fire & Engineering Department in Claims section. She was promoted as Chief Manager in June 2016 and has later joined Marine Hull Department in December 2016. Originally from Commerce background, she has also worked in GIC Re and has a keen insight in both the Direct and Reinsurance Domain.

Mr. Iman Kalyan Dasgupta and Mr. Deepak Joshi are both DR officers who joined in 2015. They handle the Marine Hull and Upstream Energy portfolio – both Domestic and Foreign.
